Bio | Extended

John Royce is a horseman from Texas with a passion for sharing his love of horses and riding. He organized the first equestrian club at the University of Texas/Austin in the 1980’s. Mr. Royce’s talent for writing and interest in history grew into his award-winning journey through civilization’s past, The Legend of the Great Horse.

Mr. Royce’s diverse background in horses includes both competition and coaching in equestrian sport, from his earliest experiences in Western riding to competing in Combined Training (eventing) and Junior Jumpers. He worked for Stadium Jumping, Inc. during its hosting and promotion of the 1989 World Cup of Show Jumping in Tampa, and managed his own facility, Kendalwood, a Hunter/Jumper stables in Houston.

Inspiration for The Legend of the Great Horse trilogy came in Boston, MA, where an early wave of corporatization in the mid-1990’s was displacing the century-old used bookstores around Harvard Square. Browsing the book stacks of former professors’ libraries was a fascinating pastime, a “living” history that sparked the idea for the Great Horse story.

Today Mr. Royce works to finish the series and keep up with the social media and technology advances that are connecting people in the 21st century. You can reach him through the following sites:
