The scene is set in modern day America: young Meagan is convinced the legend is true, but no one believes … including her mother…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nJennifer wished the answer could be different. \u201cMeagan, there are no such things as Great Horses. I like that you are taking an interest in history, but you can\u2019t believe in fantasies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. Bridgestone said only true owners will believe the legend,\u201d Meagan replied stubbornly. \u201cYou are just proving it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry, Meagan.\u201d Jennifer glanced down at picture of chariot race with teams of galloping horses. \u201cHorses can make people act very strangely. Now, will you promise me? No talking with Mrs. Bridgestone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meagan shrugged. \u201cMaybe we should bring Promise back home, just in case.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMeagan?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI said okay<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer went to the doorway. \u201cTell the books goodnight, Meagan. Rome wasn\u2019t read in a day.\u201d Jennifer closed the door behind her and returned downstairs. She sat beside her husband on the couch. \u201cI\u2019m worried about Meagan, Tom.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOf course you are, Jen. It\u2019s how we know you\u2019re her mother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jennifer shrugged. \u201cShe spends all her time reading history books. It\u2019s that silly legend. Meagan is absolutely convinced.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, she told me. It sounds like this Bridgestone woman is a bit \u2026 should I say it?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is nothing wrong with being a little eccentric, Tom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat wasn\u2019t the word I was going to use.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
