“Eclipsed by Shadow” nominated for the Mom’s Choice Awards

The following is the description of Eclipsed by Shadow for the Mom’s Choice Awards:

Eclipsed by Shadow is the first book of a new trilogy, “The Legend of the Great Horse,” which takes the reader on a journey through the ages when horses were everyday companions in work, war, sport and spectacle. The story is told through the eyes of a young woman, a horse-crazy teenager traveling through history with knowledge of 21st Century horsemanship as her only defense.

Young Meagan Roberts comes from a family rich in love if not money, and is the proud owner of a new backyard foal she names Promise. Meagan is told the story of a long-forgotten legend about her beloved foal, a dark prophecy no one will believe. The legend is fulfilled when Promise wings Meagan back in time to see how horses were used in the history, where she must survive using only her own modern-day skills and ability.

Well-researched and vivid in detail, Eclipsed by Shadow combines suspense, fantasy and factual history in a journey that brings man’s ancient partnership with the horse to life. Readers become part of the adventure as they travel back to the days when primitive man stalked horses as prey, and witness the startling developments of horsemanship in ancient and medieval cultures.

This engaging book will especially appeal to history buffs, horse enthusiasts and educators. The story combines fast-paced adventure with accurate information about horsemanship and the various historical periods explored. Further information about this educational and imaginative literary novel may be found at www.TheGreatHorse.com.

The title is being entered in the Fiction and Fantasy categories. Announcements will be made January 1st, 2010.

“Legend of the Great Horse” MySpace page

Update 10/17/20: This post is now part of history, too … the book’s profile was deleted by the company that bought out MySpace as it self destructs. It was long since superceded by Facebook, and Pinterest, and Instagram, and so it goes.

The MySpace page for the historical fiction trilogy, The Legend of the Great Horse has been updated with reviews and news about the book.  The book’s blog will also now be displayed on the page. Wondrous new photographs have been added.

The page currently focuses on the first volume, “Eclipsed by Shadow,” though there will be updates about Book II featured as they come available. All fans are invited to stop by and befriend the book, and leave viewers a comment!

As always, any feedback or corrections are definitely welcome…

New Hardback Edition of “Eclipsed by Shadow”

A lot has been happening with the book! The first news is that a hardback edition of Eclipsed by Shadow will be published in October. This will be a “library bound” edition (without a dust jacket) and has been re-typeset with illustrations added along with a new cover.

Some site enhancements will be in operation soon, including a media kit including press and image downloads, and after the hardback’s release blog postings will be syndicated to the book’s Amazon page.

Also, the trilogy’s e-newsletter will soon commence publication. This monthly email will keep readers in touch with book developments and provide notifications and discounts for future volumes. I invite you to subscribe to the newsletter (and guarantee privacy of your email address).

I’m looking forward to posting more topics soon … thanks for stopping by!

“Belongs in most libraries’ adult and YA collections”

Veteran horseman Royce combines history and myth with action and adventure to create a fast-paced, well-informed tale of a flying horse and the young girl who loves her.

Following the birth of a palomino foal, 12-year-old Meagan names the young horse Promise, and an uncommon bond forms between the two. Told by an elderly woman that Promise is one of the legendary Great Horses, Meagan flees with Promise through time after she discovers that others want Promise for themselves.

This series opener should appeal to fans of equestrian novels as well as historic fantasy and belongs in most libraries’ adult and YA collections.
